Nizhny Novgorod in the mid-Volga area is hosting on April 10, 2015 a sizable conference on import substitution in the Volga Federal District as a response to western sanctions.
The Moscow-based is putting together the event with support from the , Nizhny Novgorod.
The conference will feature:
? The RISS management;
? Representatives of the research and academic circles of the Nizhny Novgorod region;
? The Nizhny Novgorod regional government and the Office of the RF Presidential Plenipotentiary in the Volga Federal District;
? Business circles;
? International experts.
RISS expects to use the results of the conference when developing strategies for Russia’s economic policy in the current conditions.

The Russian Institute for Strategic Studies (RISS) is a major scientific-research and analytical center established by the President of the Russian Federation.

About import substitution
Back in 2009, President Vladimir Putin of Russia announced the launch of import substitution programs in the Russian sectors that had obvious competitive advantages.
Last year, in the face of economic sanctions imposed against Russia by a number of western countries, import substitution became a priority for the national economic development strategy and now calls for the development and manufacture of advanced high technology products inside Russia.
